Who Should Attend?

This training is vital for anyone who is called upon to enter a potentially hostile environment (one containing toxic or flammable gases, oxygen deficiency, access problems etc.) in order to carry out his or her tasks. The training is particularly suitable for persons employed in construction, civil engineering and utilities (e.g. gas, water, sewage) operations, including tunnelling, trenching, underpinning, pumping, drainage, pipe-work surveying and underground maintenance work.

CONTENT

The program is divided into two categories:

• Breathing Apparatus (BA) Escape – 1 day
• Breathing Apparatus (BA) Working – 2 day

The 1-day session covers the use of 10 minute “escape” set breathing apparatus as part of an emergency evacuation protocol, plus the use of gas monitoring equipment, communication systems, intrinsically safe equipment, harnesses, tripod and winch. It also aims to give candidates a good working knowledge of confined space hazards, atmospheric contaminants, Permit-to Work systems, Risk Assessments, defining and identifying confined spaces and emergency evacuation procedures.

The 2-day session covers all of the above, but with focus placed on the use of BA “Working “ sets for emergency rescue teams, or for use in atmosphere testing in unassessed environments.

Generally, the 1-day session is found to be sufficient in scope for most day-to-day applications, with the 2-day session being supplied for larger or more specialised teams or rescue professionals. All training materials and equipment will be supplied by us and maintained/ calibrated in accordance with regulations.
