Signing, Lighting & Guarding (Operative unit 01, Supervisor unit S1)

Candidates requiring both Operative and Supervisor units will need to attend an extra day

Certified by QS along with a card issued by the Street Works Qualification Authority

This programme is designed for Operatives and Supervisors who have to install or monitor the installation of signing, lighting and guarding for work on the highway.

Operatives

By the end of the course delegates will be able to: Understand the basic principles of the NRSW Act 1991 and standards prescribed by SQA Identify and use correct traffic control measures Install and dismantle signing, guarding and lighting safely and in accordance with the supporting Code of Practice Correctly and confidently operate the equipment used

Supervisors

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

Monitor a work site survey to ensure that suitable provision is in place for the site location requirements and those with special needs

Monitor the protection of pedestrians, site personnel and vehicular traffic on site.

Monitor the provision and control of portable traffic signals in line with site location requirements and traffic conditions

Monitor site safety throughout the signing, lighting and guarding operation.

As well as practical and portfolio classroom-based work, candidates will be required to sit an open book, multiple choice, on-line test which must be completed within a 45-minute timeframe, with a pass rate of 80%.

Every opportunity will be taken to facilitate up to 2 re-sits where time allows. A charge will be made if candidates need to return another day to re-take their on-line test.
